What if a pipe breaks underground?

Updated: Nov 16, 2022

Traditional sewer repair methods tend to be pretty invasive. They often involve heavy-duty excavation equipment, big ditches, piles of dirt around your home, re-routed traffic and the cost of putting everything back together again.

Traditional methods work well but they usually take several times as long to complete. However, thanks to trenchless techniques most of the work can be done more quickly and without the inconvenience. In the long run, trenchless sewer repair is also less expensive

This minimally-invasive technique repairs damaged drainage pipes without the major excavation work normally associated with sewer repair.

Trenchless sewer repair has been around since the 1940s but, it really took off in the 1970s. Pipe lining is not a cheap, quick, fix. The technology was intended to be an alternative to conventional rip out and replace methods. The pipe liner creates a pipe-within-a-pipe to restore failing drain and sewer lines.

The new sewer line is placed by pipe bursting or pipe lining, without digging trenches the old pipe is broken out and the new pipe is laid in place behind it. It is then inflated so that it fills the old pipe and the resin coating hardens inside the old pipe. The liner is designed to last over 50 years.

Lining sewer pipes saves residential and commercial properties up to 75% in costs as compared to replacing the old pipe with a new one. The cost of labor is also reduced by the time saved using this method over traditional excavation and replacement.
